2023.32484 - Known working NVIDA driver versions & other minor requests

  1. Moving to 32484 (Alpha 6.1) I started getting error messages (multiple variations) from Touch about updating or rolling back drivers if the message is seen. Upgraded Nvidia drivers from 556.12 to 576.52, and now seeing severe crashes and performance issues across multiple versions of TouchDesigner. This is on win11 w/ 4090 but my servers span both win10/win11 and Geforce/Enterprise, so understanding known good drivers will be helpful now and would be ideal to be noted with future releases. I did try the new Buffer ENV variable described here Debugging crashes triggered by GLSL errors | Derivative since working with the new buffer features.

  2. To combat rapidly breaking changes, it would be great if the Alpha Download Zip and any overview/example toes can be embedded in the file name. Since using filename.touchversion.fileversion.toe, can lead to issues with touchversion mistaken as fileversion for the auto increment if a new file is saved (since no digits on first save, then 32484 incremented to 32485 etc), I’d suggest filename_touchversion.fileversion / Overview_32484.1042.toe . Adding this to the alpha download folder name would also help for the bugfix versions under the same minor version number, I stubbed my toe on that a couple weeks ago. Many of the examples in the forum don’t have version numbers in file name or description, would be great for us all to push for that as well.

  3. Whether directly related or not, in general with the Alpha across multiple projects I will get a Crash/Autosave warning message, but then the CrashAutoSave file is never actually written to disk, even though message holds until I close it. I used to have this occasionally with hard GPU crashes so assuming this is just a side effect of being in the wild west days of direct buffer access, but I probably only get autosaves on 20% of my crashes.

6.1 has really stepped up useability and Map + Blend CHOP Input improvements are deceptively simple for how much they unlock. Cheers to the team!

There are no known driver issues specifically right now, expect for on laptops with Intel/Nvidia GPUs having issues with opening windows. Other problems are likely bugs that we need to fix in the compute shaders.

Are you getting .dmp files during these crashes, or at least when you do get the CrashAutoSave.toe do you get them? Please send anything you’ve got, or reproducible steps with a .toe file is also helpful.
