3DSMAX to TouchDesigner

Hi!

I’ve imported a SolidWorks .SLDPRT file into 3DSMAX, and I’m trying to export it to TouchDesigner. I’ve tried with .DXF, .obj, and .FBX (this one using 2 different kind of exporting parameters), but there is no way that I can import my model to TouchDesigner. I’ve tried dragging and importing from file, with no success :frowning:

Could any of you please tell me how to do it right??

I attach my exported files and also the .max file which contains the SolidWorks model. I imported the SolidWorks model to 3DSMAX with SimLab SolidWorks importer.

Thank’s in advance!!

There seems to be a bug in the Import File dialog that causes it to not work first time I tried. I was able to drag-drop the EngancheDerecho.FBX into my network and it loaded the model fine. Also on the 2nd attempt to use the Import File dialog it worked as well.
What happens when you try that?

The first time I import it says File couldn’t be loaded, the second one it loads a geometry comp with nothing inside, it does the same when I drag and drop. Maybe I have to edit some parameters of the comp to make it reveal the model??

Can you save the .toe file that is created after you do the drag-drop import and attach it here?

Here it is.

Can you try saving your .toe file somewhere before dragging the FBX into it? Also try puting your .fbx file somewhere else. I"m not sure what’s happening here yet, but it works fine for me.

When you open my file you see the model? Or it just works fine when you drag the file?

I’ve attached an empty .toe, a.toe with the example that is shown at the begining, and a .toe that contains two components with the .fbx inside them (NewProject.2). I tried importing it and dragging it into a container but it keeps on not showing the model

Thanks for your help!

I have noticed that when I add a Geometry component to my network and I dive into it to replace the torus for something else, or a new torus, when I get out of the component it shows nothing, as it does with the model imported of the .FBX.

Maybe it has to be with my version of TouchDesigner or any file missing?
I’ve got TouchDesigner 088 (64-bit) Build 24240

EDIT: Wrong clue, it was because of the inactive display and render flags of the new SOP I place at the geo. It has nothing to be with the load of the .FBX, I’ll keep on trying things.

Did you try putting your .fbx file in a different location?
Yes when I import the .fbx file you posted I see the model.

I have also seen the bug where the first time trying to import produces a TOP import dialog, the sevond the proper .fbx import

You mean in a different route in my hard disk or in another network?

I’ve tried both with the same previous result =(

It’s very strange, I’ll try uninstalling and reinstalling TD and let you know.

Thank’s for your help!!

Have uninstalled and reinstalled but it keeps on not showing the model

Also I have tried importing and dragging a new .fbx file that I downloaded from http://tf3dm.com/3d-models/fbx but there’s no way I can see the model. I attach both, the new .fbx and .toe file where I tried to import or drag.

Don’t know what else I can do.

May it be due to any specific driver or missing file that I would need so I could load the .FBX??

Every suggestion that I could try is really welcome!

If you go to Dialogs->Console after trying to drag-drop the file into TD, is there any useful messages there?
Can you send us your preference file, which is located in
C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Derivative\TouchDesigner088

This is what Console says:

I attach my preference file.

Thanks a lot malcolm for helping me so much!!

Just solved it!

I tried putting the .FBX in C:\ and it finally loaded the model right. Why this could be?

Previous times I’ve had the .FBX in:

or

I like having this kind of files in Dropbox cause I can use them in other PCs.

Could this problem be beacause of the tick above the “u” of my name? Jesús? I’ve had some issues because of this with XBMC.
