I finally spent my over a long time saved money and bought my dream PC with a 5090 to really dive deep into Touchdesigner and unleash it’s full power only to realize that for example the Nvidia background top(haven’t tested the other ones so far) don’t work.
The documentation says it works with 20-40 series cards, guess I should have looked into that beforehand
Will this functionality be added soon or at all or did I miss something in the setup process?
Sorry for the confusion there. Unfortunately the way the Nvidia Maxine library works is that they have specific AI models for each generation of graphics card and the models are not backwards compatible i.e. the 50xx series can’t run the 40xx models. We ran into this same problem when the 40xx series cards were first released as well.
This issue affects the Nvidia Background, Denoise, Upscale, Body Track and Face Track nodes.
We have been talking with Nvidia about an update plan, but haven’t been able to get a firm answer yet. We’re hoping that once their GTC conference is over we might get some more information. But I can say that it almost certainly won’t be an update for our current 2023 official since it would involve updating a number of other systems we use such as CUDA.
So in short, if I correctly understand what your saying, these operators will be able to be used with a 50s card, but it might take a while and you don’t know how long it will take.
That is somewhat promising at least.
Can you give me a ballpark how long it might take?
In any case ,I highly appreciate how well you and all the other pros in this communicate and try to help the community in this forum, thanks a lot an keep it up🔥
I want to be careful not to make any promises here. The main unknown right now is Nvidia and how/when they want to release an updated Maxine SDK for the 50xx series. Once we get some details from them, then we can confirm the licensing and tech issues and make plans for a TouchDesigner update.
