A Frame Within A Frame (video on video)

Hey All! First post here… I’ve been following a number of tutorials online and really enjoying TouchDesigner but I have a really simple question that I can’t figure out. I’m trying to create a very simple video whereby one video forms the background and another video sits on top of this but in a smaller size thus the background video creates a frame. I know this is super simple but I have been through all the comp settings and can’t figure it out. Any help gratefully received.

hi,

use a Composite TOP (compositing mode to Under or Over depending on your need) in which you input your 2 videos. On the Composite TOP use the Transform tab to scale your top layer to the desired size and reposition it with the Translate option if needed.

I can’t believe it’s that simple. Thank you so much. It works. Now to set up render chain etc. You’re a don.

Sorry I have one final question. Do you know why the film sitting on top would be slightly opaque (it’s hard to see in this screen grab) if I am using the ‘Over’ setting in the composite. I can’t seem to see an opacity setting in the phong or geo etc…

hi,

better to share the project (or at least an example if not possible) so we can have a more precise look

Hey @Gallo - really appreciate the time. I hope to pay it forward one day. I fixed that (it was the phong emit setting) but as ever there is one final question. How do I make this animation so that it starts with the box head on rather than on it’s axis? I tried to attach the project but as a new user I am unable to add links to posts. I followed an elekktronaut tutorial on animating a cube using the timeline Chop and a few other bits but I can’t work out where you say ‘start timeline with cube face on’.

And here’s what I have set up.

what is your timelineCHOP controlling ?

@Apiento you can attach files ones you have earned trust level 1.
See paragraph “trust level 1” on this page: Understanding Discourse Trust Levels , basically once you’ve spend 10 minutes reading several topics on the forum you’re done.

Ah thank you @nettoyeaur

I use Discourse in a forum that I run but we don’t have these settings…

Hey. Thank you. That is linked to the start and end of the timeline but my issue is that the cube starts 45% rotated as opposed to face on.

hard to say without the project. But i would use the Frame count from timeline to drive x, y z rotation of the geo so the rotation follows the frame number but depending on what your are looking for in the whole project this can be irrelevant.

I’ll try and figure out how to share the project as it’s driving me a bit mad tbh…
