Ableton Live 12 Control Surface issue

Hi,
I’ve been trying to install TDAbleton for a while now, with little to no success.
Since the auto installation gave me an error, I tried doing it manually.
I copied the TouchDesigner folder (yes, the correct one) into Ableton’s Remote Scripts folder, but Touchdesigner still isn’t even showing up in the Midi Control Surface in Ableton.

I’m on Windows, latest versions of each Touchdesigner and Ableton Live 12.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Apparently the Touchdesigner folder disappeared from the Remote Scripts folder by a ghost’s hand or something.
I copied it there again and now it’s working.

Are you putting it in the user folder or the application folder? The newer way is to put it in the user folder

I’m also curious to know why your automatic install was failing. If you have time to send any error messages, please do! I’d like to fix it for others

it’s in the user folder, thanks!

It basically told me to run Touchdesigner as an admin, which I then did.
Didn’t get rid of the message for some reason though.
If you want more details, I can check again tomorrow.

Hmmm… that’s annoying that it wouldn’t let you install. Whatever info you can give me about the error would be great! Also if you could take a screenshot of the utilities page on the tdAbletonPackage component, I’d like to see if the folders it’s coming up with make sense…

Sure,

Here’s the Utilities page:

And here’s the error message (which remains the same when I start TD as an administrator):

I appreciate your time and wonder if you could check a couple things more if you don’t mind…

  1. does the textport have any more details when the install fails?
  2. expand the package Utilities parameter page and see if the MIDI Remote Script Folder matches the place that you put the remote script in
  1. The message in the screenshot I posted is all it gives me
  2. It does match, but funnily enough, now that I checked, the whole-ass Touchdesigner folder has disappeared from there again (probably because I tried to run the auto installer again?)

Whoa and it’s in your user folder?!

Yes, it is :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I just double-checked my code and there should be no possible way for the install to give that fail dialog without printing a message to the textport. Can you try one more time, making sure a textport is open before attempting the install.

Sure, here you go:

Oh that is very interesting. In this case it’s not finding the source files in the TD installation. Is there something unusual about your installation or file system that might be causing this?

If you have time to further pursue this bug, I’d love to see a screenshot of what’s in your c:/program Files/derivative/Touchdesigner/samples and c:/program Files/derivative/Touchdesigner/samples/TDAbleton folders.

Nothing unusual about my installation. Didn’t manually change anything at all. Basically just ran it.

Here are the screenshots:

So does it really not have the path it’s looking for in the error message?

c:/program Files/derivative/Touchdesigner/samples and c:/program Files/derivative/Touchdesigner/samples/TDAbleton/Line 11+/TouchDesigner

If it doesn’t have that folder, you should re-install TD and then try this process again.
