AbletonTDSync Raw Audio problem

Hey guys,

So I’m in the process of switching over a clients visuals system from using catalyst to touch designer due to the awesome ableton integration you guys have made and released.

The setup:
OSX running ableton / tdsync plugin > linksys router > touchdesigner on a pc (windows xp sp3)

All the scene OSC and timing ramp data is working perfectly fine, however there’s an issue I seem to be having with getting the raw audio from the sends in ableton - When I go and look inside /tdsync/system/audio there’s a warning flag on the raw audio CHOPs saying “Warning: Unknown Device…”.

I’ve consulted the ableton/tdsync wiki and it doesn’t really shed light on the issue, I’ve also searched the forum pretty heavily and havn’t really found anything other than people being pointed to the wiki so I’m wondering if anyone has had this problem and solved it.

Does it require me to run audio through my soundcard on the mac over to my pc using the respective outputs/ins (which would not be ideal) or is there another way I should know about?

Thanks in advance and hope to be posting here more frequently without just help questions

Hi Kingdomofzeal

Yes. The TDsync project is configured to received 4 channels of audio from the soundcard. I found that not to be ideal as well so I built a M4L device to convert audio to OSC on a channel in Ableton and send it to Touch. You can find it on this thread here:

There are 2 devices one I built and one another user built (cod65). In my device you’ll have to set the ip and port you want to send the data as well as a channel name. There are also some functions to smooth and filter the audio.

This device works pretty decently for using audio amplitude to modulate parameters in Touch but if you want to do accurate audio analysis in Touch (ie spectral analysis) you’ll still probably want to use actual audio from the soundcard.

Thanks for clearing that up, I’ll definitely give this a go - Thanks so much!
