I’m woking on a visual and got a bit stuck. I want to create a reactive sphere with lots of noise and instancing going on within. Not sure if I’m going the right way, but is there a way to put this visual for example inside a sphere? Give it a sphere shape and bounds? I did this with instancing ramp and now can’t find a way to give it sphere bounds.

I’m assuming you are using TOPs as the instancing source? Perhaps there is some Noise added? Please provide more detail and context to your question.

to clamp it to a sphere, you would want to calculate the distance of each point from the center of the sphere and then multiply the point coordinates by the factor of length/sphere radius.

You would want to utilize the Math TOP to calculate the Length (giving you the distance of the point from the center) - watch out to disable the alpha channel in the “Combine Channels Input” and for convenience output to RGB by selecting them in the Combine Channels Output parameter.
Also useful will be the Threshold TOP to retrieve all pixels that have a length larger than the radius of your sphere.
The rest is mostly multiplying.

Your method worked! You have no idea how pleased and grateful I am, thank you for the detailed explanation and the file.

I’m stumbling on an issue, the pattern is not able to fill up the full space inside the sphere’s radius, and it’s sticking on the sphere’s edges like a circle, not like a sphere. Any idea how I could fix this? I’m using ramps as position properties for instancing, and then adding noise for the fluid motion and disintegration. I would like to have the bounds clamped to a sphere, while the main motion happens internally, inside the sphere. Does that make sense?

I’m attaching my file here, maybe you can help me figure out how to increase the scale of the pattern so that it’s clamped to the bounds of the sphere, while there’s still enough of the pattern left to move inside the sphere?

you might just want to start with a sphere as a base shape. The Palette>PointClouds folder has a pointGenerator which includes various base shapes including a sphere or a sphere surface.

That’s too much information to take in for me, I am just starting out and really want to finalize to project I started for work within TouchDesigner. If you could be of help and show me how I can adjust the file I sent so that the pattern has the form of a sphere, you have no idea how much you would be helping me out.

This is perfect, I have no words. You have no idea how much stress you helped one person get rid of. Thank you a thousand times! Anywhere I can follow your work?
