I was curious if Touch would get any benefits from alembic? Alembic is a hierarchical cache that stores both transforms and deformations. Not sure how it would manifest in Touch, as a net works or as a reader that accesses the cache from disk. I was thinking of poking around with it a bit and I was curious where would be a good place to start?
I know some people who are working on the project and it seems very promising. It looks like Houdini has it’s own SOP to read the .abc cache. There maybe a faster way to read and display that data. I may poke around a bit on my own, but if you guys have any ideas I’d it would be cool to tinker with.
Hi guys, are there any news about Alembic in Touch?
This format supports a lot of software and very fast and size saving… Much much faster and efficient than OBJ and FBX.
Bump.
Interested in this as well. We want to output animations (motions) from our 3d preview of our light installations, then load into Octane to make beautyshot/renders.
This is actually something I’ve started, but we need more test cases to really flesh it out and make sure it works well. If anyone wants to share some example files that would help it’s progress.
Let me know if you need any other .abc exports. More than happy to provide some more advance exports from houdini (cloth simulation or mesh generation.)
