Animated lines on object edges technique?

Hi,

Does anyone have an idea how to achieve this kind of effect? I don’t know where to start.

I did a very simple version of something like that in a workshop a while ago. You can check it out here:

Cant remember which of the projection mapping videos its in but it should be easy to scrub through them quickly.
