Animating growth L-system

Hi there,

I have been exploring L-systems, but I’m still a bit new to Touchdesigner. I want to generate/animate the growth of the plant I created with the L-system. I figured I should do this with a timeline and generations, but I have no clue how to go about this and it keeps crashing if I try to put a time-based function for generations (I understand why, but I don’t know how to fix it). I tried looking it up, but I can’t seem to find anything that covers the basics of how to animate, they all already have the animation going. I’m also kind of new with time-based functions. Hoping someone can help!

Hello,
If you use a timer Chop and then a math chop with 0 to 10 output range, it works but:
– L-System is very CPU demanding, after 10 generation it begin to slow the process
– Generations are integers, so there is steps between each number
– if you use meshes for leafs, its killing CPU
I use a system giving the position of each branch extremities (with Chop calculations) and I instance leaf or flowers in Geometry as to obtain many complicated flowers, like here: (at 7’50") I control separately the growing of each tree and of each flower.

Hi Ilvy, does it have to be generated in realtime?

Very cool Jacques! I’ll bet the kids and adults loved this! Did you use Kinect near the end or some other method of tracking? The leaves and flowers on the trees looked really nice and colourful. Well done.

@gordharris Hello, yes I used a kinect 2 when the girl “erase” the trees, you see when she is outside the field of view…

Thank you Jacques - very creative Visuals and dance piece! I got a kick out of seeing the little kids performing with your visuals!
