Anybody using a kepler card yet?

Just wondering how the new kepler cards compare to the 500 series. I know the kepler cards have their issues with other non-game software like Octane GPU renderer, so I am wondering if I need to grab myself another gtx 580 while there are still some left, or if TD benefits more from a new kepler?

Personally the Geforce 680 GTX (with Kepler) is my under-$600 dream card:

1536 cores
2 Gb GRAM
25% lower power consumption than the 500 series (so it’s Shuttle-friendly)
4 simultaneous digital video output ports
reliable (in my experience)

But is there any significant performance boost over a 580?

From the wiki, looks like there wouldn’t be much point in getting another 580 for SLI. Is there really any way to get a significant GPU performance boost over a 580 or 680? (that is of course without spending 3-4k on a quadro?)

I guess when I say “significant performance boost,” I am thinking of the 680’s 1536 CUDA cores vs. the 580’s 512 CUDA cores-- a ratio I’m sure is not reflected in actual performance.

FYI, don’t bother with SLI for TouchDesigner, it adds very little to the performance.

Performance improvement of 680 vs 580 depends on what the GPU/CPU/drives etc are doing, but over 50% boost was not atypical.

That’s good to know, thanks Greg!
