Asking for Floor Projection Setup Tips

Hello everyone,

I’m planning to use a standard long-throw projector in a classroom to project images onto the floor. However, I’m facing a challenge: I can’t mount the projector on the ceiling due to installation restrictions.

Does anyone have tips or creative solutions for setting up the projector in this scenario? Any suggestions or ideas to work around this limitation would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello,
If you cannot use ceiling or walls to hang your projector, the only solution would be a heavy, tall light stand.
I own an old RJuliat (french historic brand) roling light stand and I mount a Manfrotto rotule ball on it.
My projector is mounted with a Manfrotto plate and voilà.
Here you can see a performance with 3 projectors on light stand. Unfortunately there is image of the projections, not the projectors… (teaser made with different locations). 1’50", 3’45"
On the photo, you can see it near the window to the right.

Unlike Jacques I used a different system called “TinkTube” to build many structures for a recent show you can see examples of here: https://gord.smugmug.com/Visual-Music/Visual-Music-2024/ECFTA-Journey-to-the-Metaverse-art-show-/2024-02-10-Metaverse-TinkTube-Structures/i-CDmpwmK

I am not sure if it they ship outside north america but the parent company Flexpipe might:

I had several projectors up high on these pipe structures you can see in the pictures.

It would be easy to modify these to project Obliquely downwards like Jacques. I actually bolted these to the floor so they were super stable even if multiple kids or adults ran into them.

If you want something more temporary and can get your hands on a light weight short throw projector you could also use a film company “C stand” commonly used by grips and photographers. I used this to hold up one corner of a stretch screen from this company who also have a lot of different mounting solutions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZeY3uP_hTQ&t=3s

If you are going that route, either buy a few sandbags or figure out a way to bolt it to the floor so no one can tip it over.

One other route is a full truss system like we used at Trade Shows - smaller systems available for DJ’s…

Good luck on your experiments! Have fun!
