+1, It’s already supported in ffmpeg with hardware acceleration.
Software decode/encode of AV1 is actually quite slow. This codec has great compression, at the cost of poor performance.
We partially support AV1 hardware decode on newer Nvidia hardware (Ampere+) although I think there are some bugs to work out.
We will look into adding hardware encode in the future too.
