Back face at extruded Normal POP

Normals.toe (3.9 KB)

The back face of my extruded object is unseen when i add normals.
How do i make it full?

Thanks a lot,
Rotem

Hello, currently the extrude doesn’t allow to keep the original faces, so you have to reverse it and merge it with the extruded faces.
We’re planning on adding more features to the extrude POP.

See attached. I’ve also included a POP alternative to trace SOP, the polygonize POP, which is faster but has more limitations. We’re also planning on adding more features to the polygonize POP and improving its memory usage.

Also I noticed Facet POP consolidate seems a bit buggy, especially with the polygonize POP in this setup, I’ll investigate more.

Fantastic!

Thanks a lot Vince, appreciate it a lot

Also possible to merge directly the ‘sopto POP’ with ‘extrude POP’, to merge the flat face with the extruded face.
not sure if it’s its proper way - but even quicker way of solving my case

Thanks again Vince!

Hello,

The reason I added the Convert POP/Reverse + Facet POP/consolidate is if you wanted to subdivide or compute smooth normals afterwards, in that case the edge need to share points with both sides.

But yes if you need a flat shaded look you don’t need to do that.

see attached toe for comparison.

I demonstrated with a simpler shape, can’t quite get it to work nicely with the banana, which I’ll investigate more.

edit: actually it works pretty well with the banana in our latest internal builds, some facet POP bugs have been fixed. Subdivided shape is still a bit odd because of the shape of the triangles on the banana.
