Basic Triggering Question

Hey There!

Just a quick question on something I just quite get to grips with in Touch…

A while back when I was learning Processing for example, it was straight forward to click an XY location and for the mouse button to trigger something - for example a circle to expand and then fade away.

I’m trying to find what the terminology would be within touch to do this type of thing? To have a trigger that can set off multiple or many variations of itself…

I’ve tried looking at OPSnippets in Event Chop, and also at Replicator tutorial - but I found both a little perhaps overboard for something that I considered to be relatively simple… maybe they are and I just haven’t learnt them properly yet - which is totally cool if so

Just need a little guidance or terminology to help guide me to being able to make simple triggering…

Hope that makes sense
Thanks so much!

Hi @polyphant,

the specific case you describe: trigger “…a circle that then fades away…” plus “…a trigger that can set off multiple or many variations…” does sound like the Event CHOP would be the best candidate.

Sometimes it can be interesting to see the processing code and then work from there - do you have the example in processing?

Otherwise I would always recommend going through our fundamentals course which explains in short videos the very basics of TouchDesigner. Especially with the pre-knowledge of Processing I think it really is just the translation of approaches and techniques - they differ but once you understand them both it will be easy.

cheers
