Hi folks. This is my first post here, and I’m a newbie. In another of my trainings, I decided to focus on the line material. I create the usual initial structure for instance, fps shows 60, as soon as I add the line material, fps drops to 16, and sometimes lower. Why is this material so heavy? I can’t work with it because the computer is slowing down.
Hi @Nama,
welcome to the community!
there could be many different reasons for this, could you share your file where you are experiencing this?
cheers

Hi @Nama,
in your case this is because it has to create so much geometry. The source for your instancing is a grid with 20x20 rows and columns, this again is being instanced 1000 times, so you end up with a lot of necessary line geometry being created.
What would you like this to look like? Is it that you want to draw a wireframe of all rectangles being passed in? Could you use a Rectangle SOP instead of the Grid SOP as a source?
cheers
Markus
I do not know what and how I want it to look like. I’m just trying, watching, experimenting.
About grid - I tried different grid settings, with different values, and still slowed down the computer. Yesterday I tried another session with line material and came to the conclusion that the computer seemed to have a “tail” in the form of reduced fps from the moment when I was very overloaded with my experiments. When I rebooted the computer, the fps dropped, but not as much as the first time.
I have not tried to work deeply with rectangle yet, but I will pay attention to your advice!
Tnx
