best movie format for moviein TOPs?

HI all, I am trying to get more speed out of a network that has a lot of movies with alpha.

VLC player tells me this about the movie files that I need to work with:

codec: PNG Image (png)

resolution: 1040 x 768

decoded format: 32 bits RGBA

I notice the movie-in TOPs are taking on average, 85mSec to cook but ranging from about 45 to 118mSecs.

is it possible for me to get the running more efficiently? should I get handbrake out and re-encode them? If so, what would handle alpha better?

cheers,

rodney

Animation codec is good. H264 is also good, you just put your alpha channel on the bottom half of the image (make it double high) and use the Bottom Half is Alpha option in the Image page.

With Pro, Cineform is fantastic also.

I’m going to go for Animation codec.

although I know touch can do it, what is the best free program out there to batch convert a whole bunch of .mov files from PNG to animation codec and save them in a .mov container?
(or into another container type that touch likes?)

Rod.
