Camschnappr - Swtich TOP

Hi,

I am still a beginner, and I have some struggle for projection mapping using Camschnappr.
Right now I have a Switch TOP triggered by different audio inputs to play a video clip, which I want the Switch TOP as sort of the texture for the 3D model. Or is there a way to link this to any MAT?

I imported an .fbx file for the 3D model exactly the same with the physical model. I went through all the workflow of Camschnappr where each points are aligned from the projector, but not sure how yet to link the the video output (now a Switch TOP) to the 3D model, and to have it as a output through the projector.

I tried with a Window COMP but that seems like not working with the already aligned Camschnappr points. Probably I am missing or did something wrong, please let me know!

Hey,

you are pretty close. after calibrating the projector with camSchnappr, use camSchnappr as the camera reference in your Render TOP (derivative.ca/wiki088/index … Render_TOP)
Also add a Geometry COMP to the output of the mesh1 SOP and reference that new geo COMP in your render TOP.
Next add a Material of your liking (a phong or something) and reference it in the previously created geo COMP under the Render Page in the parameters.
you should now be able to see the texture applied to your model in the Render TOP.
To display the rendered example on a second screen, reference the final texture in the Operator parameter of the Window COMP.
There are good examples for general render setups in Mathew Ragan’s Tutorials which you can find here: matthewragan.com/teaching-resou … hdesigner/

Thank you so much for the advice!
Now I know how to link the input video as a MAT to GEO, and to the projector output.

The problem now is that even though the points are aligned in Camschnappr to the physical model, the Render TOP doesn’t seem to calibrate the same size. The image I can see in both Rendor Top and the projected image on the physical model is a super scaled down size of the aligned 3D model. The perspective seems right but the scale is completely different.

I fiddled around with the resolution output of the projector, but this only makes the output resolution blurry so probably its not the solution.

Do you know what is the problem?

Hey,

make sure the Render TOP resolution is set to the native pixel resolution of your projector. With this reference the Render TOP with the camSchnappr camera and start the calibration process.

It might be useful to share the file with the SOP containing the Model locked - maybe some other issues pop up that are not apparent right now.

Hi Markus,

Thank you for the feedback!
I made sure the resolution of the projector and the Render TOP is matching, but maybe there is a problem somewhere else.

I attached the toe file, it would be awesome if you can take a look.
You can see that in the Render TOP the visible model is very tiny and I don’t know why it’s happening.
In addition, when the Camschnappr camera and the Rendor TOP (projector output) is matching, how do you get the same camera position in Cinema 4d? I want to make more pre-rendered animation in Cinema 4d and I thought it would be the best to have the same camera position as the cam schnappr so the 3d model perspective is the same. (even though it’s not a complicated model, it will help a lot!)

Hey,

can you lock the mesh1 SOP and post the project file again? This way I could see the actual result.

Sorry about that, here it is.

Hey,

I just saw that your render has the Render Mode set to “Dual Paraboloid” - does the issue resolve if you try redoing everything with the Rendermode parameter set to 2D?

Hi Markus,

Thanks for the continuing support.
I redid the Camschnappr input, points, tried with another mesh SOP, however now the model doesn’t show in the Render TOP.

I tried with a normal Camera COMP to see if it works, and the projector is exactly showing what the Render TOP is showing. Maybe since it’s a simple geometry, I could adjust the normal camera to the perspective of the projector, but it would be nice to know how to work out the Camschnappr.

Another thing I’m struggling with is the UV map. I exported the 3D model from C4D with a UV map but when I import it in TD I can’t find it within the 3D geo component. So I did a MoviefileIn TOP with the UV mapped animation, and attached to a Phong Mat, but how can it work on the Geo Comp with the correct UV map?

Hey,

are you using 088 or 099 for this?
If you are in 099 please give the new camSchnappr in the palette a try to see if this solves it. I’m not sure where the issues arise from that you are having.

One other thing that comes to mind would be to check if the projector’s aspect ratio is correctly set?

Hi Markus,

I’m using 099. Where can I get the new Camschnappr?

The aspect ratio and resolution is matching in the settings.

Thanks,
Nao

Hey,

same place as before - Palette>Tools>camSchnappr.

Have you updated to the latest build of 099?
