As I said, can someone recommend a usb audio interface that has a minimum of 8 analog inputs and 8 analog outputs that is known to actually work with Touch.
Just had the pleasure of buying a Tascam 16x08, only to discover that it does not work with Touchdesigner. I can see the channels available when selecting it under ASIO in the audio device out chop, but nothing seems to pass through. The only way I could get it to do anything was to activate the first 8 channels under the directshow option? Then it would output on all channels, turning any one of them off cause them all to turn off. It works as it should when running windows audio tests, so It looks like a compatibility issue with Td. Googling pulls up tons of complaints about it not passing through audio when using itunes or chrome, seems like I have the same issue as well.
Sigh, such a bummer to have such an expensive thing be such a pile of crap.
Anyways, thanks!
we’ve been experimentimg with lots of audiocards in TD and stopped our choice on Scarlett 18i20
Most of the audiocards works in such way that through windows direct drivers you can only see first two inputs which can sometimes be a problem. But in TD with focusrite asio driver selected everything works fine.
We also worked with these cards
echo audiofire 2
echo audiofire 4
motu audioexpress
focusrite scarlett 8i6
I wouldn’t recommen them. All of these cards had external adapter and we always had issues on-site because at some point
if there was a ‘jump’ or ‘click’ in power network they always stopped working.
scarlett 18i20 have computer-style power plug and it’s been working very stable for us.
also I can recommend RME: Fireface UC the only thing is that 7/8 output of this card is at the same time a stereo headphones output so it’s merged.
Saffire PRO 14 firewire seems to work well, but I do most of my heavy audio in Ableton.(had to add a firewire card to my PC but is solid, buss powered, 8 in 6 out).
We typically use the MOTU 896 which supports 8in/8out. It works great most of the time but occasionally I have found some laptops/motherboards that don’t work well with it.
Has anyone had a chance to try any RME interfaces with Touch?
Ya I’ve got a Babyface I use regularly, works well with it’s own ASIO driver. Which would supposedly mean all of the USB RME’s should work since they all use the same Fireface USB driver, I believe.
Using a RME fireface UCX for a while now, all good.
Noticed a strange behavior on the last experimental, frame rate drop, fixed by turning the audio device CHOP off then back on. Maybe an Asio related issue, going to try to replicate the issue
Yes I have also noticed this issue with both the Fireface UFX and the MOTU 896.
There appears to be some sort of memory leak. After about 5 minutes of use the audiodevicein CHOP will take about double the amount of resources as it did when the node was originally created. bypassing and unbypassing the CHOP will cause it to reset.
After about 30 min of use on a fast computer I have seen the cook time exceed 50ms! Eventually if I leave it alone it will bring my scene to its knees and cause it to playback at < 1fps.
The audiodeviceout CHOP seems to not have the same issue.
@matthewwachter
this sounds like the problem I had. There’s a thread about this issue somewhere here on the forums. I used a motu 828 (mk2 or mk3, not sure).
I was able to work around this issue because it only happened if I selected specific channels in the audio device in chop’s parameter dialog (instead of getting all of them out of the audio device in chop and then using a select chop.)
I’ve had this issue too. With focusrite 18i20.
The solution is to avoid selecting specific channels in asio mode. Place a select chop after audiodevicein instead and leave * on ADin
The progressively slower cook time of the Audio Device In CHOP with selected channels has now been fixed in builds 54680 or later.
Thanks for your patience on that one,
Rob.
