Cannot open project / CrashAutoSave file in older build after saving in 2022.24200

In the process of upgrading my show to use 2022.24200. After running the project in 2022 for the first time, I discovered and patched a handful of compatibility issues, but am still having troubles with FPS dropping randomly. I’d like to roll back to 2021 for now, but when I open the project in 2021.16410, it fails to start and generates a CrashAutoSave file. Then when I attempt to open the CrashAutoSave file in 2021.16410, I receive the following error message. Strange as I didn’t manually change anything related to Custom Parameters when upgrading to 2022. Crash dump attached

CrashAutoSave.app.696.toe (632 KB)
TouchDesignerCrash.2021.16410.1.dmp (205.1 KB)

Hey @benjaminben,

If you saved the project in 2022, and you are trying to open it again in 2021 then you can expect and experiment all kinds of bugs.

A lot of things changed under the hood and larger projects would definitely be affected.

If you open a 2021 project into 2022, in the background a number of operators, features, parameters get a first update pass, possibly including typing even on custom parameters.

You save once and all those changes / “silent updates” would get written to file. Changes that 2021 wouldn’t necessarily understand.

So, you can’t really expect to open that file without issues in 2021 anymore.

Your best bet is to use a previous backup that wasn’t saved in 2022.

Best,
Michel

Understood, thanks Michel. Beyond the mentioned performance issues the update has been awesome, looking forward to when I can eventually upgrade my production rig
