I have transcoded a video from ProRes 4:4:4 to a NotchLC file using Media Encoder.
When adding this file into TD in a MovieFileIn TOP it throws me an error saying “Failed to open file”.
Using TD 2020.26630 under macOS 10.14.6 (MacBookPro15,1)
Is there a limitation with macOS ? (from the doc it seems to be ok using NotchLC from macOS Mojave though)
NotchLC requires compute shaders, which OpenGL on macOS do not support. So it’s not supported on macOS currently. This is fixed in the Vulkan/Metal port that is coming in the future though.
didn’t find any information about this limitation in the documentation though.
Maybe something to add in the doc and / or add a more detailed error message when using this codec under macOS like the one we can read when using a platform dependant node like KinectTOP
No timeline, but it’s already functional in the Vulkan/Metal builds. When those come out it’ll be there, but it’s not something that can be planned around yet.
