Clarification on Touch Player licence and scaling

Hey all,

Am I right in saying that touchplayer pro licences are based on a per site/install basis? There’s a piece I’m commissioning at the moment for a retail installation. It’s going to be installed in 5 flagships stores initially but might need to be rolled out to 300+ stores. This is likely to make using TD cost-prohibitive. Does anyone know of another approach for scaling distribution of a TD app or should I be looking at another technology to deliver it in?

cheers.:

@digitonal licensing is on a per-seat / machine basis. So assuming that all 300+ retail locations have their own hardware onsite - you’d likely need to assume a license per machine. Is there a particular reason you’re targeting pro licenses? For these kinds of rollouts the player license is often a better fit, and unless you need the specific high end features for a pro player license a commercial player is probably a good fit.

I know the folks at derivative have volume pricing available for bulk licensing orders (or I think they did at one point) - so for a bigger licensing conversation you might want to ping support to make sure your bases are covered.

Other considerations here would be the new cloud licenses - if your large rollout is more digital signage than interactive experience you could consider doing a hosted TD install that then streams to thin client end points. That’s more server integration work, but could be another solution. Hosted GPU instances get expensive quickly - but if you really need streamed content rather than on-site run content that could be worth exploring. If the retail client has an existing AWS relationship, this could also be a way to shift cost around.

Thanks for that! Yes, each location would have local hardware and it is an interactive experience so would need to run on in store machines. and yes, I was referring to the player licence but you’re right, it’s just the commercial I’d need and not the pro. Still at $300 per site that won’t scale quite so well. I’ll contact licensing though, thanks.

That’s great to know about the cloud licenses though - I’ve another DOOH project in the pipeline for which that would work well.

Thanks!

Yes, we have discounts on TouchPlayer licenses starting at the 20th license in a bulk purchase. Please reach out to sales@derivative.ca and we can give you quotes for the quantities you are interested in.
