Hi all,
Our exhibition PC, which had been running continuously for four years, died last month. We bought a new PC and moved the exhibition .toe files onto it. Since then we have been fighting a problem where a CodeMeter dialog periodically pops up on screen: the Windows UAC prompt “Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?” for CodeMeter Runtime Server. It appears every now and then and covers the whole screen in black.
- The new PC runs Windows 11. The TouchPlayer license is installed through the Key Manager. We do not use a USB dongle.
- The OS on the new PC is new, but the TouchDesigner / CodeMeter Control Center versions are old. We are using the same versions we used when the exhibition first opened. As a test we updated CodeMeter Control Center to the latest version, but that did not fix the problem.
- In CodeMeter Control Center > Events tab, a large batch of error-like entries is logged every 20 seconds. I assume these are TouchDesigner’s license queries to CodeMeter.
In all the years we have used TouchDesigner we have never seen a UAC prompt from CodeMeter Runtime Server. I would appreciate any advice on why this is happening now and how to fix it.
Windows:
Windows 11 Pro 24H2 64-bit, OS Build 26100.1591
(no cumulative updates applied since KB5042114, Aug 2024)
TouchPlayer:
2022.32120
CodeMeter Control Center:
CodeMeter Runtime Kit 7.40b (7.40.5001.502), installed by the TouchDesigner 2022 installer
CodeMeter Runtime Kit 9.10 (9.10.8166.500, build 8166, 2026-Jul-28) Manually installed
Note: The Windows System log shows the “CodeMeter Runtime Server” service terminating unexpectedly (event 7034) 2-5 times a day. Every UAC elevation event logged in Microsoft-Windows-UAC/Operational (33 in total) occurred 0-35 seconds after one of those service crashes (one case: 2 minutes), and their timestamps match the blackouts reported by the staff.
Thanks!
