collection of little UI things as i think of them

Just a thought - because the new nodes ahve the inputs very close to the bypass, clone immune and what not flags, its very easy to accidently hit one of those while trying to connect up a node. could there perhaps be either more room between the node input and the flags or have a special mode where if i’m ‘holding’ a node line, then it will preferentially select and drop that onto the connector rather than hit bypass?

can there be a shortcut to disable all ‘display flags’ in your current network?
eg cntrl D to toggle the currently displayed ones on and off?
i quite like having a few things visible as i’m working but sometimes it gets cluttered and it’d be great to be able to quickly hide all that were there temporarily and then bring all the same ones back?

how about selectable ‘noodles’? I know that during production it gets rushed and you throw nodes around everywhere to try and make something work and it gets really messy and you lose track of which node is noodling into what - would be great to be able to select a node connecting line (what is the name for that?) so that it is highlighted so you can see where its going - particularly for those multiinput nodes

a naming thing - when you hook stuff up from a component to a multi input node like math or merge - invariably the name inside that component was ‘out’ and it gets hard to wokr out which ‘out’ is which. Would it be an idea in the inputs section of those multiinput nodes that it gives the name of the parent compenent and the ‘out’ chop inside it?
eg instead of a list of 5 ‘outs’ in a merge it would be /blahnode/out ?

a scalable command and expression help window? Cause i’m often horizontal spanning the help thing is too big to be viewed in a 1024 x 768 screen

bump

i couldn’t agree more with the bypass flag. it’s so easy to hit that thing.

also on the selectable noodles i think this would be mega helpful when the animation is paused as it’s hard to follow those things when they’re not being animated themselves.

We gonna fix that very soon.

regarding the ‘noodles’ issue,

an alternative approach for tracking nodes could be to slightly highlight the incoming/outgoing lines of a selected node. That way the connecting lines remain passive, yet you’ll get an extra resource for tracking your way through.

Or, how about a mode/key combo where you can select a node, then with the mouse wheel scroll through 1->n connections, the paths and nodes are then highlighted. Upstream and/or down stream choosable via key combo, like zoom in and out in Photoshop.

just an fyi, but selectable noodles is on my to do list and will hopefully be available within a few weeks.
we’ll discuss the other issues as well, but they will take a bit longer.

I am trying to decide what to do about connecting inputs and outputs. I would like to know whether
selecting the first input/output is a problem, or whether it is just once you have your first input/output
and you are trying to connect to the desired output/input that is an issue. I’m trying to decide whether the
clicking area needs to be larger, or whether you just need a more prominent visual cue, such as the buttons
enlarging when you slide over. they do currently get high lighted, but perhaps the change is too subtle?

thanx.
