# Composite TOP basic question

Hi!

This is my first post here.

I’ve been using Touch for 4 months or so and I just don’t get how to use the Composite TOP.

I always end up using a geometry with texture, but its not very precise since i can’t find a way to work geometry with units working the same way as pixels.

So, the main question is, how can I merge different images with different resolutions in one “canvas” as I were using Photoshop or after effects?

I have one movie in Top with an image of 1024 x 768 and another one of 1024 x 768 and i want to merge both images in a canvas of 2048 x 768, applying a transform Top moving 1024 pixel to a side respectively.

``````Every time i use the composite Top, it stretches the image and don't use any particular or logic x,y cartesian plane.
Any ideas of how can I do this basic operation?
In VVVV is pretty straight forward, In TD I always end up using 3D geometries and camera which take a lot of resources.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Hi Thakupa,
to prevent stretching check the Pre-Fit Overlay parameter on the Transform Page of the Composite TOP. It is by default set to “Fill”, yet you would want to choose “Native Resolution”
Now with the 2048x768 canvas I would set it up like this:
• the TOP with the resolution of 2048x768 is the first input to the Composite TOP
• the 2 smaller ones are inputs 1 and 2
• on the Transform Parameter Page:
[list][*]change the Fixed Layer to “Input 1” as the other inputs are the ones you would like to transform
• set the Translate x parameter to -0.25 (unit is fractions) in order to move it to the left side of the canvas
• set the Translate Step x parameter to 1 in order to offset every other input TOP by it’s width
Hope that helps,
cheers
Markus
Great!
Finally got it.
This is a very important and basic thing to know in TD.
I have to say its not very intuitive, but the fixed layer concept is very useful.
This community is amazing.
Thanks for the help.
Another tip if you are working in pixels is to change the Unit menus to Pixels in the Translate parameters.
