When a cone light hits an object with an uneven surface, the edges of the light beam should line up. This works as expected as long as there is no cone rolloff (see first image). Increasing the cone rolloff appears to affect the beam incorrectly as it hits uneven surfaces (see second image)
The only difference between the first and second image is the amount of cone rolloff on the light. Here’s a small project which demonstrates the issue further:
