Can you post a screenshot?
Are you on the Official Build (3715) or one of the Experimentals ?
Which OS? Which Graphics Card? Are they updated?

According to the FAQ, ATI cards are unlikely to work with Touch… only NVidia is supported.

I didn’t know the radeon was an ati card. okay. but it doesn’t make sense to me - a graphic card that doesn’t screw up the graphics, only the text? and doesn’t graphically destroy the text but translates it into gibberish?
Well, it could be a different issue… I would wait for one of the Derivative staff to reply to this (they are in Toronto, so they should see it in a few hours)

Hey abrogard, sorry you are having issues. That ATI card is quite old and it’s very unlikely it can run Touch. Touch runs using OpenGL, which graphics card manufacturers provide support for through their drivers. Different features may or may not work depending on the quality of the drivers. In this case the ATI drivers aren’t creating correct text, but they are creating other elements of the UI correctly.
In general we have found that Nvidia’s drivers are far superior in their OpenGL support, which is why will generally suggest that people only use Nvidia cards.
Thanks for the help, the interest, the replies. It is good of you. Nice friendly forum. Sorry I can’t join the community but until I get another card I guess it’s no go.
I got mixed up because there’s nVidia in my computer somewhere. Here they are, I just took a look, it is apparently my ATA/ATAPI Controllers - there’s four of them listed as:
NVIDIA nForce4 Parallel ATA Controller
and I just had memories of seeing that when I was reading the Derivative screen about computer requirements prior to downloading. Else I probably wouldn’t have done it.
Be a while before I can bleed off a bit of the family budget for an nVidia card just for me and my esoteric tastes but I’ll do it when I can. On my ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe, which is getting to be a pretty old board now, too.
Perhaps I’d be wasting money trying to put a modern nVidia card on there? Perhaps I should go a complete upgrade, pick another board. Wonder what the cheapest adequate nVidia board would be…
No drama. Plenty of time. I’m really only looking for something/someway to demonstrate to my young feller ( 7 years old yesterday ) how to make a cartoon from a series of drawings - because he draws quite well and loves cartoons and can’t grasp that they are only drawings (‘they don’t have black lines round them’).
I’ve looked at and downloaded a few packages and wasted a fair few hours on our labour saving device, the computer, because I got nowhere. I might have to take the trouble to draw a few stick figures on the edges of the pages of a notebook and flick through it - might show him.
Then if he takes an interest we can come back to the computer and find a package for him to develop his interest with… maybe Touch?
Hi Abrogard,
The nforce4 parts in your computer likely means that your motherboard is using a Nvidia nforce chipset.
Also, regarding upgrading your cards, since your current A8N motherboard uses PCIExpress for the graphics card, you should be able to re-use any card you buy now in your next computer.
Welcome to the forum, and here’s hoping you can find a way to run TouchDesigner!
Cheers
