Erroneous data in MIDI In DAT receiving from Ableton Live

I’m seeing odd data in the MIDI In DAT that is not appearing in the MIDI Event DAT. My setup:

  • TD 2021.14360 on MacOS 10.15.7
  • Ableton Live 11 on the same machine.
  • I’m sending MIDI CC data from Ableton via IAC Bus. The data appears correct when logged using MIDI Monitor.
  • In TD I added a MIDI In and MIDI Event to a new project. Checking their tables shows a difference. The MIDI In table has extra rows with incorrect data. Eg, check row 9 in the screenshot below.
  • I haven’t been able to reproduce this issue when using a hardware controller instead of Ableton. Wondering if the frequency of messages is an issue.

Thanks for the info.
It’s puzzling as the MIDI Event should include events from all MIDI In or Out sources.
Is the CC 1/4/86 expected, or a completely phantom event?

I think it’s completely phantom, although I guess it could also just be very out of order. Happy to test more here if you have something specific to try!

Hi Mark, could you explain what we are looking at the in the Ableton screenshot? I see a note there at the top of that spike, what does that represent? An 86?

Is this a software only setup? If so maybe we could try to reproduce if you shared your files with us.

I’m not sending any notes from Ableton in this example, just CC data. Yes, software only, using the IAC bus to send the MIDI.
