FBX Export settings and importing mesh with materials (for use in TouchDesigner)

Followed this year and a half old workshop from MUTEK using my own FBX files exported from Houdini.

Just dragging and dropping the fbx file from the desktop doesn’t work no matter which flavor FBX I use on export.
The mesh is always merged.

Just wondering if there is a preferred workflow for generating FBX files that will be used in TouchDesigner
ie FBX export settings and or preferred 3D application for generating your FBX

Is there any file format or workflow that will allow exporting and importing of mesh WITH materials into TouchDesigner? This has always been a huge PITA for Unity workflows, always having to reapply materials after importing your .obj or .fbx. However recently there has been a solution using the newer glTF file format and a glTF plugin for Unity. Don’t see glTF support in TouchDesigner though.
