hi
with camera operator,
I know I can manually change translation, rotation etc in the parameters to move it with precision;
but I like to interact with camera in the viewer of the camera node, much nicer,
however its sort of hard to control it; if I use right mouse button I can pan, if I click and drag I can rotate around, but often it moves too fast and I cannot choose very well around what to rotate it,
where can I find detailed instructions about how to really manage well the camera viewer to move the camera directly on the viewer?
thank you
try the new Camera COMP in Palette: TouchDesigner Documentation
It supports WASD and 3D mouse control
@nettoyeur thank you this sounds fantastic, Im trying it but its not working for me; I delete the previous cam object, and I add a camera component from the palette. In the render operator I set camera to the new camera component, and in the camera component the render is set to the render operator; that doesnt work
If I keep both cam objects in the scene, then setting render camera to camera component of palette also doesnt work
how is this setup supposed to be done with the new camera component? thank you
When you mentioned that it doesn’t work, could you be more specific? Do you see the rendered scene inside the palette camera viewer? When you activate the palette camera viewer and move the mouse, does the camera move?
@robmc hey Rob thank you, it works now, I found the problem, it works now,
and whats the best way to set a pivot point with this new camera component to then rotate the camera about that arbitrary point in space? thank you
@robmc by the way to fix it: I updated TD to latest version and now version of camera component is 0.21 instead of 0.15, and now the error is gone, interesting,
We’re still actively working on that new camera, so it is changing a lot with new features and bug fixes. Our internal version is actually 0.23 and will be renamed to cameraViewport in the next update.
The pivot point is set based according to the navigation mode set on the main Camera page. In the default ‘Viewport’ mode, the pivot is a point in space at the center of the viewer. But if you change it to Cursor, it will use the a point on the surface of any geometry that is under the mouse pointer. In Object mode it will use the center of all geometry in the scene and in Camera mode it will use the camera position itself so that you are looking away from the pivot.
@robmc understood Rob, I have to say that its really great that you are creating a powerful camera comp, because honestly the standard camera operator was in my opinion not at the level of the rest of the tool, so this is great news really
