FPS drops to 2 after importing video through moviefilein

When I import a video into TD through the moviefilein TOP operator, my FPS drops to around 2 and makes my system unusable. The video itself is around 4mb. I have lowered the aspect ratio of the video too inside the operator but it is still unusable. I have updated all of my integrated graphics card and Nvidia Graphics card drivers, yet the problem persists. I use a MSI laptop, and have an RTX 4080 graphics card with 12GB vram, but my task manager shows my GPU is actually barely being used. Inside my Nvidia control panel, I have also selected touch designer to use my high performance graphics card, but that didn’t help. I don’t have any bloatware either. I feel like I’ve tried everything, how do I solve this?

Hi,

Can you share the parameters on the tune page?

What’s the actual resolution of the video ? What codec is it using ?

Best,
Michel

Hey Michel, thanks for the prompt reply.

My video is in .mp4 format, and yesterday I found that if I turn off the viewer of the operator, the fps stops dropping, but then I can’t visualize anything I’m doing (I was following this guide: TouchDesigner Optimization Strategies - The Interactive & Immersive HQ).
I searched some more and I think it’s something to do with CPU bottlenecking, because I changed the resolution to 35x35 and the FPS still drops. But I don’t know why it doesn’t just use my GPU.

Where are you reading the file from?
This seems to be an issue with your storage or the transfer from the storage.
What happens when you set “FrameReadTimeout” to 0?
