Using build 31900 on win 8.1 when I right-click on SOP or TOP operator and try to Save Geometry or Save Image very often makes Touch to freeze and the only way to close it is to open Task Manager and end the process from there.
Also I have this problem with Rouge (for which I am using build 13370 as it is the last build with whom Rouge is playing normal) when I click on Save Button makes Touch also to freeze, so I’m not able to save my Rouge project from there. The workaround I found for this is exit Perform Mode-Menu-Save As.
Hey,
when it’s frozen can you go to the task manager and do ‘Create Dump Files’ on the TouchDesigner process? This will create a very large file will .zip down quite a bit. Send a dropbox link to support@derivative.ca and we’ll be able to see where it’s freezing.
Let us know which build you do it in also.
Is there is work around for this? Is someone else having the same issue?
Now when I open some patch and do some changes when I click Ctrl+S - Touch process is freezing and even becomes invisible in the taskbar, also it didn’t save my file and the only way to kill the process is to open Task Manager and stop it from there.
It is happening sometimes, sometimes don’t, but I definitely have it.
No, it happens with different .toe and .tox files - from 5 to 150 KB. I am confused what could be the reason. Before I didn’t experienced such a thing on my older win 7 laptop. In the beginning I also thought that if the .toe nodes network is very big this is freezing TD somehow (but it is not a performance problem, this MSI GT72 is pretty solid). Sometimes I founded as a work around to hide all operators viewers and to pause the timeline, then to Save. But then it happened also with very small networks. And also sometimes when I click Save Geo As or Save Image As. May be the pop-up window is doing something wrong? Pretty weird, as I described it Touch freezes and become invisible if I try to access it on the taskbar or with alt+tab. It’s still there on the taskbar but I can not open it from there, also I don’t see anywhere the pop-up Save window.
Maybe it’s a particular preference you have set that few other people use. Can you go to
C:\Users<username>\AppData\Local\Derivative\TouchDesigner088 and try deleting the pref.txt file there (back it up beforehand to save your current prefs) and see if that helps? If so please send us the pref.txt so we can try to see what preference is the issue.
Thank you Malcolm, I did it. Got to take some time and to test it with some files before report again This is this pref file, lol. pref.txt (191 Bytes)
It’s happening again unfortunately… Might be some weird windows preference or something. Soon I will upgrade to 10. Hopefully then I will not have this. Otherwise I don’t have other explanation for my bug.
Little late to the party, but from all you described, it sounds very much like there’s a modal dialog from TouchDesigner opened, and you can’t see it for some reason. I’ve encountered this on occasion, and usually have to tab through the open windows or move them aside to find it. Next time you get this, can you start by minimizing open applications and see if there’s modal dialog from TouchDesigner?
