Hi everyone,
I’ve been experiencing frequent and seemingly random freezes in TouchDesigner recently, and I’m hoping someone from the Derivative team might be able to help me investigate the cause.
The issue can happen in two different situations:
During the initial startup/loading of TouchDesigner.
Randomly while a .toe project is already running, sometimes even when I’m not actively interacting with it.
When it happens, TouchDesigner first freezes completely. The mouse cursor turns into the Windows loading spinner, then the application window becomes white and Windows reports that TouchDesigner is “Not Responding.” At that point, I usually have no option other than force-closing the process through Task Manager.
There does not seem to be a consistent trigger. I have tested several different .toe projects, including older and relatively simple projects, and the same behavior can still occur.
Most of these freezes do not generate a TouchDesigner crash report or crash dump automatically. For some of them, I manually created .dmp files through Windows Task Manager while TouchDesigner was frozen. I still have several of these dump files, but I’m not able to properly analyze them myself. I can upload them here if they would be useful for debugging.
So far, I have tried:
Reinstalling TouchDesigner.
Testing multiple unrelated .toe projects.
Performing a clean reinstall/update of the NVIDIA graphics driver.
Testing with the latest NVIDIA Studio Driver 616.92.
Restarting and testing the system after Windows updates.
Unfortunately, the freezing behavior still occurs.
My current system configuration is:
CPU: Intel Core i9-13900H, 14 cores / 20 threads
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, 8 GB VRAM
RAM: 32 GB DDR5, 5200 MT/s
OS: Windows 11 Home 25H2
OS Build: 26200.9445
NVIDIA Driver: Studio Driver 616.92
TouchDesigner: 2025.32820
I also have screenshots showing the frozen / Not Responding state, as well as several manually captured .dmp files.
Since the problem can happen both during startup and while completely different projects are running, I’m currently not sure whether this is related to TouchDesigner itself, the GPU/driver environment, or another system-level component.
Would someone from the Derivative team be able to take a look at the dump files, or let me know what additional logs/debug information I should collect the next time the freeze happens?
Any advice on how to properly diagnose this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
