gtx 690 good choice for TD?

Hi All

I am looking into graphics cards for my band’s TD rig and have found a good deal on a gtx 290
I was wondering if this is a good choice for TD, I was slightly concerned as I read that TD does not support the dual GPU. Will this affect the card’s performance?

As an alternative I have found a k4000 for a similar price, would that be a better option?

many thanks

Is GTX 290 a typo? I can not find any spec on such a card. The 200 series cards (ie GTX 260) are very old, they won’t give you the power to do much.

The K4000 is a very low power card, so if you are looking for power then the Geforce of similar price will be more than 2x as fast.

doh! apologies all I meant the gtx 690!

so just to clarify, even without use of the dual gpu, the gtx 690 would give me better performance in touch designer than the equivalent k4000 quadro card?

If that is the case, excellent I found it for cheaper!

Do dual gpu cards offer any advantage over single gpu for TouchDesigner? I remember the question being raised about the GTX Titan because it’s also dual gpu I believe the answer was no. In that case you might save quite a bit of money and get a 680 or 780.

You have to remember the Quadro series is based on stability and tear-free playback with its drivers, and being able to use Quadro sync cards and similar. So it’ll always be more expensive for the equivalent amount of GTX power.

Whereas the GTX is basically pure gaming speed. Both have their places, and we mix cards (not in the same machine) regularly, since on boxes, the GTX cards are killer fast for a fraction of the cost.
