Handwritten font

Hello,

I would like to use handwritten font called Playwrite Tanzania, and I have noticed that in TD it doesn’t form a nice continuous line.

This is how the font looks on web:

And this is how it looks in TD:

It seems like this font uses different glyphs depending on next / previous characters and TD doesn’t take this into account. Its not a big problem, just something I have noticed and wanted to ask about. Please do you think there might be a way to support such non-standard font in TD, or would it cause too much trouble? Thanks.

Which node are you using this in, and which font mode (polygon, scalable etc) are you using?

I have tried this in Text TOP (all modes looked the same - including polygon and scalable) and Text COMP (no difference there).

Yeah, I can confirm the issue in the Text COMP. I think its an issue with how cursive joining is handled by the font library, but I’m still looking into it.

We’ll update you when we know more.

Thank you very much for looking into this.

Hi,

I just heard back from the developer of our font library and apparently the features required for that font are not currently available. The library does support cursive joining for languages like arabic which require it, but apparently this font uses a different method. He says they may add it in the future, but they don’t currently have a timeline for that.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention. It may be overkill, but maybe you could use the WebRender TOP if you want to get that styling into touch?

Hi @robmc,

thank you very much for info. No problem, don’t worry about it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah, WebRender TOP is the way to go for now. :slightly_smiling_face:
