Help - Badly rendered soft shadows and material

Hello guys… I am in real pain because i cannot understand what is wrong!
I am following this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLebV9rjqb4&t=724s
Everything looks great, until I add the shadows as he does at 14:05. At this point, his work looks good and the shadows are perfectly fine while on my project this is what I’m rendering… What is wrong and what am I doing wrong here?
I hope I’m not missing out on some dummy stuff!

Thanks in advance!

Hi @EK_appa,

might be easiest for people to help here if you post your file and mention your hardware setup as well as TouchDesigner version you are running.

Sure did! I updated the post with all the details along as the file.

Hi @EK_appa,

I think it’s mostly due to the light’s position. If you place it manually more upwards and to the right, the shadows come out similar to the tutorial.

The values of the light are a bit crazy but I’m posting a screenshot here for reference.

For nicer shadows, you can also increase the Shadow Resolution to 4k or something.
Also you are on a fairly old build, maybe time to update?

I still notice, even from your screenshot, a huge difference from the tutorial’s result. I did try to raise the shadow’s resolution and also the antialiasing up to 32x just to try (along as moving the light) but I still don’t get why his result is so much better…

Maybe it’s something to do with the material also?

Hi @EK_appa,

sorry - not sure and hard for me to follow the whole tutorial also lot’s of custom settings in the TOPs are in play. The files are available via the Patreon I belive - might make sense to compare directly.
