How generate long shadows?

I have a problem with lighting and shadows.
In my scene I have a plane with a width of 3.5 and a depth of 3.4.
I added two boxes and one light with the settings shown in the attached image.
I want to see long shadows, like the ones generated by the sun.
My problem is that I can’t enlarge the area of the light.
The only way to make the light cover the entire plane is to move the light farther away, but in that case the shadows also change.

Does anybody know what I’m doing wrong?

I’m able to get long shadows without any issues using a very basic setup. Which version of TD are you using? The parameters page for Light looks different than mine (latest version).

I’ve attached the sketch I put together.

Edit: When placing a light in the world, you can use the view to make sure that all objects of interest are actually inside the FOV of the Light, otherwise it might crop the shadows.
