How to? Where hdmi isn't long enough?

So,
I’m wanting to do a pretty big projection mapping project downtown. Thinking it through though, I understand the projectors will be at least 1000 feet apart, probably across a river…

It occurred to me that the vision I had, running HDMI cables to each projector from my powerhouse laptop, is no longer feasible…

How do we overcome this?

How can I have video controls on my laptop at one projector, but then feed half of the output to another projector way across the way to cover all angles of a building?

The usual way to handle signal transmission over distances longer than a couple dozen feet is fiber.

Gefen and Kramer are two of the usual suspects who provide DVI/HDMI to LC adapters. Over these types of distances you’ll probably want TAC-4 or something similar, as opposed to generic multimode orange sheathed strands.

If there is a staging/rental house involved in the PJ installation, I’d recommend letting them spec and provide this. If you need to add it to the rental, let them spec the complete fiber/adapter kit. You want to avoid being responsible for debugging a fiber run if possible.

Edit: also be mindful that the adapter pairs often provide well-meaning EDID forwarding features that might require some extra debugging.

We’ve used Gefen extenders and worth also checking out Extron’s version of the extenders as well, we’ve use them successfully for very long runs.
