Hello everyone,
I’m having an issue with the Optical Flow TOP.
On certain videos, I get very different results from what I would expect.
In some areas of the video, solid colors (bright red or green) appear as if it’s detecting strong motion, even though there’s nothing moving there.
I’ve tried adjusting the threshold parameter, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect.
I’m wondering if this could be related to the source video itself, maybe something to do with compression, codec…For reference, the videos were shot on an iPhone.
If anyone has encountered this before or has any ideas on what might be causing it, I’d really appreciate your input.
Thanks in advance!
interesting that the Threshold has no effect on the result.
Could you share your TouchDesigner build number, video card and driver information?
If it’s possible to share a short video clip that shows this behavior, that’d be great too - would help us understand why this is happening.
Hi Markus,
Sure, here’s a video, I hope it helps you understand my issue:
I’ve also noticed that it doesn’t always appear on the left side in other videos (and mostly shows up in black areas).
I’m using TouchDesigner 2023.12370, but I get exactly the same result with the older version.
As for my rig details, you can find them below (same problem on my other PC with an RTX 4080 and Intel i9). I also tried using the Nvidia Studio Driver.
I have a similar experience with 2025.31760. Fortunately i have been able to matte out the unwanted areas but it may not be possible in your situation.
Thanks for your reply! I tried the same approach, but it’s not ideal in my setup. Hopefully there’s a better way. I’m just curious about how optical flow works and why it produces these weird patterns on certain surfaces.
