K5000 v GTX 680

Now that the K5000 has been out for a bit, do you guys have a recommendation between the K5000 versus the GTX 680?

I am displaying 3072x768 across 3 projectors, with various layers of canned and generative content triggered by cameras tracking.

For the price of one K5000 I can buy two 680’s. Is there a benefit to having two 680’s over one K5000?

Thanks!

There is no benefit to having two 680s unless you are using two different systems.
The main thing the K5000 will give you is access to the Video Editing Profile, which allows you to get tear-free/frame-drop free playback when Aero is turned off in Windows 7.

Thanks Malcom.

So perhaps a single 680 with 4GB RAM is the way to go. Frame tearing or dropping has not been an issue so far.

Also, will both the 680 and K5000 support 3 projectors and a work monitor?

Yes, they both support 4 outputs.

Hey Malcolm!
First of all thanx for all the posts and info on forum!!!

What do you mean:

So if I have 2 machines w. GTX 680 (GTX770 would be identical?) I will have 2x performance on 8 screens compared to 1 machine w. 4 screens? Or would say more correctly double the screens with keeping performance?
Tearing is not important for now. And have to add: same project w. sync headache and double fail rate on OS/software… =P

Am I correct? And please point me to some part were it is explained otherwise I willing to contribute to community/Wiki with making few diagrams of possible multi GPU/CPU/MACHINES connections and Quadro/Fire/Affinity/Mosaic VS GTX/Radeon -BECAUSE EVERYBODY ASKING SAME AND SAME QUESTIONS AGAIN!!!

Hey,
Correct, I’m saying you can double the screens while keeping the performance.

If you need more screens, might be easier to get something like Datapath X4 instead of adding more and more graphics cards or building new machines and keeping them in sync.
