KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (0×139) when launching TouchDesigner 2025.33070

Hi,

has anyone else experienced repeated BSODs when launching the latest official TouchDesigner build, 2025.33070?

I’m using an MSI Vector 16 HX A14VHG with:

Intel Core i9-14900HX

NVIDIA RTX 4080 Laptop GPU

32 GB DDR5 RAM

Windows 11

Latest NVIDIA Studio Driver

TouchDesigner currently crashes my entire laptop on startup, even when launching it without opening a .toe file. Windows shows me this:

“KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (0x139)”

Thought it may be a GPU problem but for example Blender works normally, including heavy 4K rendering. Windows Memory Diagnostic also showed no errors during the test.

I recently updated TouchDesigner and the NVIDIA driver.

Had this problem a few times before (older td version and NVIDIA studio driver).. but now I can’t open touchdesigner. Laptop crashes every time displaying that black screen with text and restarts normally.

My BIOS is still an older 2024 version.

Has anyone encountered this problem?

Yes I have got the same message several times in last day or two…. I did a Windows Memory Diagnostic as suggested by AI but did not find a problem. I am on an i9 with RTX4080. I was thinking it was something corrupting my machine, but if you got it too then maybe not….

I also updated NVIDIA driver but no luck with that either….

Hope this helps.

This is weird.

I also did a Windows Memory Diagnostic but everything looks good.

I ran “chkdsk /f /r “.. after that TD launched 2/3 times witout errors. After some time the error returned.

I had it also with the previous TD version but not that frequently.

For now I uninstalled the most recent TD and installed the older version. For now it’s working fine. I still don’t open .toe files using the “open recent” option from the file dropdown menu because that triggered the error basically everytime. The temporary fix (for now) is to open .toe files by clicking on them in the folder they were saved.

Hope this get fixed soon.

Thanks for the info. I will backup a version and open as you suggest.

Cheers and thanks!

This indicates it is not a specific version of TouchDesigner. Have you searched your system for bloatware? Instructions in this post: TouchDesigner running at 7fps after install a fresh version of windows 11 - #6 by JetXS

Also graphics drivers, update your nvidia graphics to the latest.

I have these bluescreens with touch every once in a while too. Especially when i accidentally do a very heavy operation on a texture (like a big blur or DFT) that makes the program hang. If i then get the windows message with “the program is not responding” and i click close program or the red cross to exit touch, i get this BSOD. If i however close touch using task manager it is fine somehow.
