Hello,
I use TD on a macbook pro 16 with M1max onboard (SONOMA Osx)
I would like to integrate a new kind of controller and i would use a LEAP MOTION or a Kinect to expand the possibilities on TD.
Someone could tell me if they work well on mac and which version?
thank you all in advance.
Ivan
Hi,
The kinect isn’t really supported on the Mac. I think some users have found hacks to get the old ones working on Macs, but its a Microsoft product and officially windows only.
As far as the Leap Motion, they only just released Mac M1 support recently and it wil be coming in the next experimental release of TouchDesigner that should be out fairly soon. I’ve only tried it so far with the original Leap Motion Controller, but according to their website it should support the new Leap Motion Controller 2 as well. The MacOS requirements are listed at the bottom of this page: About Gemini — Ultraleap for Developers
Hope that answers your questions, let me know if I can help further.
cheers,
rob
Thanks for the reply @robmc,
So the leap motion controller v2 (supported on mac reading the leapmotion website) should work on the next experimental realease of TD, on my M1max mac.
At the moment if I buy the leapmotion v2 on the official latest release it won’t work, right?
Thanks for your help.
Ivan
Yes, the Leap Motion Controller 2 should work on the next 2023 experimental release on an M1 Max Mac. We’ve tested the original controller on it and that was working well and Ultraleap says the v2 controller should be the same.
The 2022 official version of TouchDesigner uses Ultraleap’s older MacOS drivers which were designed for the old controllers and Intel-based Macs. It might be possible to get it working, but I can’t guarantee it.
