learn particles

Hello everyone!

I’ve been working with TouchDesigner for a few months now, and I really love particle work. I follow various tutorials by creators who build particle systems, but no matter what, I don’t really understand everything that’s going on.

I know it’s a vast, abstract, and complex topic…

Do you have any tutorials or resources to recommend that I could read to help me dive deeper into the subject? Resources that might also help others in the same situation as me.

Thanks.

Hi @Chimaera,

if you can describe what topics cause issues for you and where you have trouble fully following the tutorials, this might help with suggesting particular tutorials.

Nevertheless, make sure to go through our curriculum at learn.derivative.ca to get a good understanding of TouchDesigner’s underlying principles.

Otherwise, here is a great recent tutorial by @josefpelz explaining the basics of Particle Systems created with POPs

cheers
Markus

Thank you for your reply. Indeed, it’s true that I’ve been staying very broad. I’m trying to follow tutorials from Supermarket Salade or mini-uv, and I’m trying to build particle systems using TOPs and instancing, understanding Life, forces, attractors, etc.
It seems “easier” nowadays with POPs, but I’m making an effort to understand how all of this is calculated using feedback so that it really comes to life.

Some time ago I watched this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpnKDIBTk7c

I decided to follow it and build the project that is described in this tutorial. It involved a lot of pausing and winding back in the video, as it goes really fast and the information density is very high. But I learned a lot while doing this. I left it at about two thirds of the video. By that time, I had learned a few key concepts that I was missing and got inspired to work on my own project again.
