LED Mapping, modern edition tutorial ? Mapping pixels from 3D Geo ?

Hello there !
I’m currently learning TD to map some LED and found out that this tutorial ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShYYcr30vJw ) was super helpful to understand techniques to map pixels or video onto leds and managing DMX universes and all.

After finishing it, I saw that the tutorial is 7 years old and the TD Youtube account says in the answer that “This was recorded in 2017, so even if the files were dug up they would need to be reworked most likely as we’d use more modern approaches now.”

I was wondering if someone could point me the right direction to search for those “more modern approaches” please ?

My final goal is to map LED that are coming from a 3D model of a room with lines representing the LED strips.
Additionnaly, as I’m coming from Houdini, I would love to see how I could do the equivalent of an attribute transfer from a moving geometry inside this room to set the leds color (I’m guessing that I could do something like this with the new POP context ?)

Anyway, I’m open to any advices or tutorials that you would find interesting to tackle this issue !

Thanks !

If you right click on the DMX out CHOP, then choose “operator snippets”, it will open a bunch of examples, including the classic LED mapping.
That’s usually a pretty solid starting point.

To work with attributes, yes you could use the new POPs in the experimental. Last time I checked there were no snippets examples for the DMX POPs, but I remember reading that in the last experimental version they added all examples for all operators.

Btw that YouTube video you watched is still likely to give you the necessary information to understand the logic around the DMX and universes in TD, it wasn’t time wasted for sure.
