I’m trading in my old MBP and I’m in the market for a new laptop with which I will be doing some touch designer performances.
I will also be using it with all the CS6 applications as well as some light AVID editing. The Lenovo M530 seems like the best all rounder but it has an nVidia K2000M graphics card while the ASUS G75VX has the GTX 670MX in it which seems to be quite quick.
The ASUS, though, is MASSIVE, LOUD and really really UGLY (yes… I know… Beauty is in the eye of the beholder)
My question is does anyone have experiences with either GPU or machine? Any troubles with Touch designer and the the K2000M or the 670MX? Would the K2000M do the trick for some medium duty lifting in touch designer (a couple video layers, some particles, OSC data in and out, a bit of 3D geometry?)
I’m trying to decide the best direction to go in.
I am looking forward to any thoughts you might have.
I dont have experience either, but my 680M is a beast of a video card. I dont think the 670MX is far behind it, so you’re definitely in good hands. The only trade off would be the consistency you’d get from the Quadro card, in regards to 100% glitch free playback & tearing. Do a quick search on the forum as it’s been talked about already.
But I have yet to issue any major issues with my 680M.
i have the G75VW with 16gb of ram a solid state hdd and a GTX 670m. its good, i dont know what to compair it to because this is the only computer i have seen running touch and my work computer is on another level, hex core I7 with 64GB of ram.
Thanks. I did end up purchasing the G75 with an SSD and 32GB of ram. I’ve just been doing simple stuff with it but it is certain faster than my old macbook pro! Getting W7 of it was a bit of a pain but it is a good solid (um…heavy) laptop.
I just finished a 3 date run and it worked flawlessly. The one issue I experienced was the analog VGA causing bluescreens. When I used a Display Port to VGA adaptor I had no issues.
