Licence Retrieval Error

Hey,
I’m rather new, but I’ve installed and run TouchDesigner before, and had to uninstall it for a few months to save room on my hard drive. I’ve been trying to reinstall it this week (build 58140, the most recent download of 64 bit 088) but every time I try to run it (even after uninstalling/reinstalling multiple times) it keeps giving me a “Licence Retrieval Error” and closing.

Here is a picture:
I tried doing what it says but it had no effect.

I’m just trying to install the free licence, though my external drive has very briefly been connected to a friend’s computer and shared project files with his commercial licence, but the files are all gone from it, and the new install is not on my external, so I doubt that’s the problem.

potentially relevant specs:
-aesrock h97m-itx/ac
-intel i7-4790k 4@.00ghz
-16gb ram
-Win7 Ultimate SP1 64bit
-evga gtx960

Hope someone can help, thanks!

Hey,
This folder isn’t actually touched by the uninstall/install. Are you sure you are going to ProgramData and not Program Files?
ProgramData is a hidden folder by default so you need to type it into windows explorer.
Look at the files in there and ensure the everyone group has full control of all the files (ins2.dat etc.)

Hi,
That’s what I did. No effect.

I only have ins5.dat though perhaps I’m missing some files I need?

For the Derivative folder, can you try adding the Everyone group and giving it full control?

I have exactly the same problem and exactly the same message.

Did the autorisations it asked for, no change for now.

//Same built as above 58140 // W10 x64

I added the Everyone group and gave it full control, still no effect

just as I did…

Can you make sure the WMI and RPC services are running on your computer as well?

I found RpcLocator stopped and also wmiApSrv was the only WMI related service and it was also stopped.

I tried to go start the services and it didn’t let me, gave me this message:

Hmm, I bet that’s the problem. Those are services we need to create your system code. Are you running as administrator on your machine?

Hmm, on my side I have both of them running…

Yeah

So, what should we try next? This error happens on 2 of my stations and quite disabling as you can imagine, so I can’t use it at all because Touch just doesn’t launch.

Best,
sH

For anyone having these issues, could you please contact us at support@derivative.ca ?

We have a test branch that provides that provides more information, and uses a different approach.

Thanks.

A working solution for this has been described in this thread.
