Full acknowledge the niche position of this REF… would definitely be curious if this intersects with other line material enhancements that others are thinking about.
@lucasm - I know you often think about material complexities in touch, and wonder if you have other insights / wish lists ideas that might overlap here.
Yes, that’s always been a lingering temptation. You’d need an extra channel to designate the end of a line (0 or 1), and ya some way to generate that channel without relying on Script CHOPs. An then a way to indicate the line is closed, and then we’d want that to be rendered as triangles/polygons and…
I often go to the line mat and love it’s clean aesthetic but at least half the time run into a situation where I want to convert it to glsl and inject some very light custom code of some kind or another.
Just today actually was dealing with a situation where I wanted to set the opacity for all points in negative z to 0, trivial to do but lose the nice arrow / glyph/ miters etc
Can do this in sop land… but as we know that’s heavy, especially if the curve has enough points to make vertex coloring smooth looking in the first place.
Samplers would definitely be nice! Though I haven’t personally run into a situation needing them.
Being able to make dotted lines, of animated lines with arrows on them would be nice for ui/ux or presentation type projects.
@greg is there any reason why the line mat, constant mat and others don’t have a convert to pbr button while Phong and pbr do?
