(IF you make it to read till the end, thanks in advance!)
Working on a new live AV.
It’s the 3rd I create and perform with the musician, and this time since there were less funds to create music videos for the album (= less video material for the live, which until now was more live video mixing + lighting + few generative scenes), I want to use live feed in few different ways to let her be more performative on stage. Hoping to get some suggestions in terms of setup/gear, given the below visual sprints and also the equipment I already own, if possible!
Ideas on content/Live Feed use to try and if successful, further develop.
- LIVE CAMERA FEED (color image, straight from camera, no big effects. can be paired with some lighting spot on musician or light in proximity) close portrait. (ref Imgur: The magic of the Internet)
- The above Live camera feed + 1x or 2x strobes on musician + maybe a delay effect on the feed?**
- Full body musician Silhouette glowing in digital landscape (Kinect? IR camera? Or maybe even doable with normal camera feed?!) ref Imgur: The magic of the Internet
- Kinect to particles/point cloud
- All these would go together with other pre-rendered content I’ll create.
To the question:
I have used live feed in the past with other more experimental dance-based projects. So I have some gear laying around that honestly I’d like to use if possible (a bit bored at this point of buying gear each time, which then becomes obsolete fast…wished there was a local-gear-borrow-network for video artists btw, but more on that at another time ^-^). But happy to purchase if needed.
LAPTOP(s): planning on using the MBP M2 Max I got recently (I know, it’s not a PC lol) + I have my previous laptop (MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)), which may sound old and crappy, but has performed very well for live shows until few months ago. I could install Windows on this for instance.
OWNED Cameras
Kinect v1 (1414)
Kinect v2 (with adapter)
IR-modified Sony-something (sony camera with detachable lenses modified to take IR videos and photos which I guess could be paired with an IR light on stage?!)
Sony a7s
Canon 60d + a bunch of lenses for the last two
Gopro Hero Black 8
Insta360 x3
I’ve been an Isadora user for quite some time and recently moved to TD. Last time I checked, the kinect v2 worked with Isadora on my Intel laptop. So maybe from there I could get the depth image to my newer laptop?
Anything worth considering from what I own to get the normal colour camera feed? I don’t have enough experience with TD to make realistic choices atm (but working on it).
I ordered a BM Design UltraStudio Recorder 3G in the meanwhile to test sony a7s input.
Otherwise I could consider getting and SDI camera (one of the cheaper models).
please heeelp! I’ve read so many posts to try figure this one, my brain is boiling at this point
