Macbook M3 Max performance with TD

Hello folks.
I recently got into TD and i am very excited about it.
I bought last year a macbook M3 max, mainly for music production (i’m a music producer.)
At the time i wasn’t too worried about GPU’s but now i started learning TD and would like to start building a portfolio of works to start looking for a job as a visual artist.
How does a mac M3 performs with TD? i know it’s probably not the best machine but i was wondering how far can it take e before i need a stronger machine. Thanks

Hello

I use an M3 Max MBP with TD and find its performance to be excellent. In particular:

  • The unified memory architecture in particular gives you lots of space to do stuff in VRAM that would be hard to pull off on PCs.
  • Hardware accelerated ProRes decoding is quite simply put amazeballs.
  • you can work in TD for many hours on battery. my PC laptop doesn’t last even remotely as long.

That said, TouchDesigner has many cool features that are Nvidia specific. If you don’t need them, then you won’t miss them, but you can’t use them on your Mac.

That’s great to hear! I feel like the TD community is very windows oriented so i was starting to worry about it :grinning:.
Can i ask you what features are Nvidia specific? i’m quite new
