Make a Reusable Sprite Component In TouchDesigner

One of the great strengths of TouchDesigner is its custom component system, where you can make powerful, reusable items.

This video goes through creating a 2D sprite with controls for changing its image and modifying its alpha live. It will be a 3D object, so we can move it around in XYZ, rotate it, use a 3D camera get parallax effect, and more.

There’s much more we can add in the future - color control, animations, UI for stage movement, etc. What I thought would be a 5 minute intro stretched quickly into a 17 minute video, so we’ll have to save the upgrades for next time.

Project attached.

Doh - just opened this up on another machine and it looks like I use things that are only in the Experimental release like MAT Nulls

I’ll post an update to the movie and Toe file, please let me know if there’s anything else or if I’m doing something in a silly way.

nice one! awesome idea for festivals where there are a million artist logos to sort through

Yes, that would be a good use. You could automatically scan a folder and create a way to switch the logo between all the loaded artist logos, or automatically create a sprite for each one.

Have you been able to get something like this into the “my components” section of the palette browser? Doesn’t seem to work for me.
